Enjoy North London Dating

From a young age, most of us dream of meeting that special person and subsequently enjoy a long-lasting, loving relationship. For many this dream can become a reality, where this loving union can lead to marriage, having children and hopefully growing old together. This lifeplan will inevitably all start from the humble beginnings of a first date.

The first date for any relationship should be a pleasant, relaxed and enjoyable experience for both parties. Therefore the choice of location for this meeting is very important and those who are lucky enough to live in the boroughs of North London will find that they are definitely spoilt for choice.

Forming part of the UK’s capital and largest city, the vast urban conurbation of North London has plenty to offer those looking to enjoy their first date. North London comprises the boroughs of Barnet, Enfield, Waltham Forest, Haringey, Hackney and Islington, each of which have their own attractions, amenities, as well as individual identity and history.

Enfield

Enfield, the farthest north of the Greater London Boroughs, was once a small market town set within the ancient county of Middlesex, before it became a borough in 1965. Prior to this Enfield was located on the route of Ermine Street, a Roman road which connected London to York. Today Enfield is thriving, with a busy shopping centre – the recently redeveloped Edmonton Green – as well as numerous cultural and educational attractions.

These include The Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture, Forty Hall Manor and Myddleton House. The borough also boasts a great choice of restaurants, with the highest regarded being La Caverna, Chez Tonton, Saathi and Whitewebbs House. After an enjoyable romantic meal for two, the courting couple may wish to see the latest rom-com in the Cineworld multiplex or enjoy a play or performance at the Millfield Theatre.

Barnet

The neighbouring borough of Barnet also has a lot to offer for a memorable date. Standing on a site which was once used for the manufacture of Roman pottery in the 1st century, Barnet has a long and interesting history. This is reflected in its impressive historical architecture, with such attractions as the Church of St Jude, with its dominating Gothic spire, and the 17th century Church Farmhouse, which now houses an extensive museum.

Booking a romantic table for two should not be a problem, as the borough boasts a good choice of top-rated restaurants, to include The Gate, Savoro Restaurant and The Blue Olive. The date can then be continued with a romantic stroll through Golders Hill Park, or one of the borough’s other numerous nature reserves and open spaces.

Waltham Forest

The North London borough of Waltham Forest is equally well-served, with such attractions as Waltham Forest Theatre, the shopping centres of Chingford and Walthamstow and such historical attractions as the 16th century Queen Elizabeth Hunting Lodge and Pimp Hall Dovecote and neighbouring nature reserve.

Good food may also be enjoyed at the borough’s best restaurants – Trattoria la Ruga, The Royal Forest and the cleverly-named Eat 17.

Moving closer to Central London lies the boroughs of Haringey, Hackney and Islington.

Meet at Local Venues

Haringey

Haringey, which was once a mainly rural area dotted with grand country houses built for the wealthy classes, eventually became part of the urban sprawl of London in the 18th century. The borough does, however, retain numerous areas of green open space, especially alongside the River Lea to the east - perfect for romantic strolls and picnics, when weather permits.

There is a good choice of restaurants and eateries to be found in Haringey, with menus to suit the borough’s cosmopolitan mix of cultures. If the dating couple would prefer a traditional British menu they can do worse than book a table at St James, Forest on the Hill or Mosaica; whilst an enjoyable Asian dish can be enjoyed at Wow Simply Japanese, Taste of Nawab or Thai Neung. Those who would prefer a French menu should head to Bistro Aix or Les Associes; whilst a well-cooked Italian meal can be enjoyed at Pizza Bella or Cento.

Hackney

Hackney is another lively, cosmopolitan North London borough, boasting numerous interesting attractions and activities to suit any first date. Its long and rich history is reflected in its interesting historical landmarks and sites, providing an impressive backdrop for any date. Perhaps the borough’s best known landmarks are The Hackney Empire theatre and Shoreditch Town Hall, both of which would make suitable meeting points for the start of any date.

After enjoying a romantic meal at one of Hackney’s best restaurants, such as Su Sazzagoni, Buen Ayre or Shanes, the couple may wish to enjoy a stroll around the White Cube Contemporary Art Gallery or Sutton House Heritage Museum, or even enjoy a performance at the Vortex Jazz Club.

Islington

Last but definitely not the least is the North London borough of Islington. Fast becoming one of the trendiest and sought-after regions of North London, Islington was once a sprawling village, surrounded by market gardens and allotments, right up until the mid-18th century.

The borough’s young and lively vibe is reflected in its abundance of bars, cafés and nightclubs, perfect for an exciting date. In contrast, Islington also boasts a number of interesting historical landmarks and cultural attractions, perhaps the most prominent being the Almeida Theatre, Little Angel Theatre, Islington Museum and the Union Chapel. The areas surrounding Islington High Street, the borough’s main thoroughfare, is positively teaming with great restaurants, the best of which include Almeida, Metrogusto and The House of Wolf.

So, from enjoying a well-prepared meal with a good bottle of wine in a romantic setting, before taking in myriad sites and attractions, or enjoying the lively music and arts scene, there is never any shortage of things to see and do during any first date spent in North London.
